Of course we got Soul...

Don't think we made our last swing across the Deep South without looking up a few more soul food restaurants.
Unique Flavors in Orangeburg, SC had great food, but can honestly say the folks didn't seem very happy to see us.  We tried to be nice and complimentary about the ribs, smothered pork chops, hoppin' jon, greens and cornbread, but they weren't having none of it.  We really enjoyed the meal, but were just as anxious to leave as we were to get there.

At Mary's Southern Kitchen in Mobile however, the folks were as sweet as the tea and the food as wonderful as any soul food I've eaten.  They somehow managed to get a sweet smoky flavor into nearly every dish, including the highly-recommended lasagna.

Long as there's food like this along the back highways of America, you can expect I'll be sniffing them out!
