Námafjall Hverir Geothermal area

Námafjall Hverir geothermal area exhibits a great collection of mud pots, vents, and flows. The sulphur smell is strong, but on a windy day you can avoid the worst of it. Temps in and around the zone runs 80°-100°C, but in typical Icelandic fashion, there’s one warning sign and a few ropes to protect the idiots from themselves…

Wish this was a 4-D blog so you could catch a whiff!

Mars anyone?

Sulphur accumulation on one of the sulphuric smokestacks. Iceland used to mine sulphur for gunpowder.
