Proudly advertised as one of the premier independent pubs of Ireland (doesn't serve Guinness) the Black Sheep was on my short list of destinations and lo and behold, it's right out of the front door. Specializing in Galway Bay Brewing beers, I started with Of Foam and Fury and while ordering a young man asked where I was from.
Nat is from Alabama and was awaiting his final exam score for his Masters of Radio Sound Technology from Trinity College. He alluded back to the days of Superman and other radio programs and hopes to do the same for BBC or Prairie Home Companion since the opportunity is relatively limited in his chosen field. Bought him a Bay (red) Ale and we discussed many things except higher education, including Alabama's micro brewing and soul food. Damien, the bar keep wasn't very busy so he joined us as we discussed numerous topics over several other Galway options, plus in a perhaps premature celebration, a bit of Sam Adams Utopia, a beer that is frozen to remove the water and essentially creates a beer liqueur. Look it up, pretty tasty.
Nat left less concerned about his scores and I was glad that the flat was nearby.
Good first day in Dublin.
News flash, Nat graduated with High Honors and I will be buying him some more Utopia on Friday.
Since he's not a football fan the Colt McCoy injury never came up.
