Roughly translated it means “beautiful falls” and you can judge for yourself…
The drive across the Highlands is essentially a lava desert, but the starkness is also fascinating and beautiful…
Above the falls the Kaldakvísl is wide and shallow, and cold!
Photos simply can’t convey the power, the intimidating force, and the sheer beauty. The spray and rain soaked us, and although our gear was sufficient, the fish weren’t cooperating so we climbed out and dropped into the canyon further downstream.
Again, too pretty to worry about whether we could fool a fish, which we didn’t, and the constant rain and wind finally drove us back out of the river, but it was a pretty treacherous crossing and climb…
Slippery slope… |
The warm food and wine back at the lodge aided our recovery dramatically!
