Salkantay Trek 3.3, Café Canela

The third day of the Trek wraps up at a coffee plantation that caters specifically to trekkers. They grow, shell, roast and prepare the beans on their land and the only sales are to passing hikers. We did our part to support their survival!

And with base camp at a local farm nearby, what a lovely way to wrap up day 3.
9,868’ - 6,562’… 9.3 miles
3.116’🔻

The local farm with its Jungle Domes was simply idyllic, on a bluff above the river with cats and dogs and chickens and gardens and kids playing soccer…oh, and cold beer!!!
Lovely!

Where mamacita makes her meals for the family

Sophia missed her pets, much to the benefit of local critters

It’s a working farm as well as a base camp, so I helped the farmer chop out some trees and move some logs before supper. Felt good to get my hands dirty and swing an axe again! Like I earned my cold Cusqueña!
