The Loneliest Road

US 50 crosses the country and is definitely on my list of start-to-finish routes in a convertible with Daphne someday. The stretch from I 15 in Utah to Reno has 40 mile straight aways that you can see the entire length. On our way across Nevada we crested 14 summits ranging from 4400' to 7800' and at each summit the next mountain range came into view anywhere from 15 to 40 miles away, the straight ribbon of road stretching to the next ascent. It may be boring if the desert scenery and mountains weren't so beautiful. Lonely maybe, but not boring.

The road goes on forever and the party never ends.

Sevier dry lake bed in Utah.

Great Basin NP is actually only a fraction of the actual basin which extends from Oregon to Mexico, California to Wyoming and captures runoff in its arid environment.
